Deadline Has Been Extended For Artist Applications!
Are you interested in joining New Mexico's Premiere Street Painting Event, but didn't have an opportunity to register? There's still time!
Juried artists will compete for cash prizes and awards, while special “guest artists” will create showcase paintings to demonstrate the range of contemporary street painting. There will also be a special area set aside for our very young “aspiring artists” to play and create. Families and children are invited to participate.
The event is open to all artists living in New Mexico and West Texas. There is no charge for participating artists, but entry is competitive, and artists must complete an application and submit five samples of their previous work (the previous work need not be street art, but should represent the artist’s capabilities) as well as a sketch of the artwork they propose to create for the event. Team entries are encouraged.
Downtown Chalk Art Competition Scheduled for April 28
Be a part of Avenue Art, New Mexico's Premiere Street Painting Event! Artist applications are now being accepted for student and professional artists who will compete for cash prizes! (Download application and prospectus below). The Downtown Las Cruces Partnership is also looking for the right businesses, organizations and individuals to be part of a select community of sponsors for Avenue Art, happening on Main Street on Saturday, April 28th. This new live public art event will cover Main Street with dozens of beautiful paintings being created as you watch! A select group of student and professional artists will compete in their categories for cash and prizes, and for the “Audience Favorite” award. There will also be a supervised place for children to draw “on the street”, so that the entire family can enjoy this first-of-its kind event. For $250, your logo and/or company (or individual) name will be prominently displayed next to a street painting where thousands will see it during the two days that the street paintings are on display. Larger “event” sponsorships are also available, with an even higher level of visibility on event banners, posters and advertising. Avenue Art has been created by award-winning street painter Bob Diven and the Downtown Las Cruces Partnership (in cooperation with the Downtown Las Cruces Farmers and Crafts Market and the City of Las Cruces).

DLCP's Facade Squad helps re-make Downtown image
A group of volunteers eager to see a revitalized Downtown district in Las Cruces has recently finished its first facade improvement project. Organized by the Downtown Las Cruces Partnership, the inaugural Facade Squad took to Downtown Main Street during three weekends in June and July to restore and repaint the exterior of three Downtown buildings.
"Three buildings in three work days," said Laura Kindseth, DLCP Director. "We are lucky to have some real pros on our Facade Squad."
The Downtown buildings that received a fresh coat of paint and exterior makeover are the Camunez Building directly south of the Rio Grande Theatre, the Main Street Boutique, north of the Rio Grande Theatre and COAS Bookstore.
"Our Main Street volunteers are really making a difference Downtown and deserve a pat on the back for their hard work," Kindseth said.
Volunteers included City of Las Cruces employees, DLCP staff and board, Dona Ana Arts Council staff and board and board members from the Hispano Chamber of Commerce de Las Cruces.
